My Unplanned Hiatus Explained.

Hello Kittens!

Happy New Year. I hope your festive season was full of laughter, love and happiness.

Now I know I've been a very naughty girl by neglecting this blog. I am sorry if you thought I had abandoned you, but, to be honest, there has been quite a lot going on in my world and you all deserve an explanation.

I've been hiding a little secret:

I am going to be a mamma!

At present, I am 18 weeks along. It has been a bit of a bumpy ride as this is not my first pregnancy since my wedding back in May last year, but we are now all happy and healthy and looking forward to a little bundle's arrival in early June of 2010.

So now you understand my lack of outfit posts - nothing in my vintage wardrobe quite fits anymore and alas, it may be a while til I regain some semblance of a waistline! While I have always loved the glamour of vintage, I am finding that this unfortunately didn’t extend to maternity wear styles of yesteryear!

So I put it to you, darlings - what would you like to see here on Vintage Verve in 2010?

I don't want to bore you with baby or pregnancy related things (there are so many other wonderful blogs out there that cover these topics), unless you are interested in how I am going to try and translate my personal style around my ever-expanding.... well..... my ever-expanding everything!!

Your comments and suggestions will all be read and taken into consideration so please do leave your thoughts in the comments section of this post.

xx VV

I definitely want to see how you stay stylish. I've often wondered how I'd continue my love affair with vintage if I was lucky enough to have a bub.
Best of luck and I'll have my fingers crossed. You look gorgeous in this pic.
And my pregnant mates have always found that stretchy fabrics are your friend and that it is defintely worth investing in pregnancy jeans.

Congratulations and all the best of health to you for the rest of your pregnancy and birth.
As for the clothes. Not sure if you can still get them but there was a range called "Belly Basics" in a take out style box; available in Myer which was a lycra cotton jersey set of a tube skirt - short or long, an A-line scoop necked smock top and a similar dress and a pair of bike short or full length leggings with the tube top.
They came in black, blue and a seasonal color like grey marle, chambrey or I guess these days you could get magenta.
I was working first time so they were handy to slip under jackets and tailored shirts - to stretch your existing wardrobe before you had to go all out preggers style. Then I just wore them with accessories to create different looks.

The important thing to remember in relation to maternity clothes is that you will want to set fire to them 1 day after coming home and finding your now slack tum can be squeezed into something different. It won't be flat and you wont want to wear size 8 jeans (those bitches should be stoned on the street as they exit the hospital)
but it will be slack and soft and squishable once again.

So don't co-opt anything you really love into maternity wear, and don't spend too much. Neither makes a good bonfire.

Check out the resale-recycle type stores for modern classics - black jersey figures highly you will find. Your DVF cut is a Beauty but make sure there is enough "coverage" in the fold, or invest in a pretty slip to wear underneath.

And don't worry too much about outerwear when the weather does get a bit cooler. You are now the proud owner of in-built central heating. you really won't feel the cold.

Good luck and all the best for what will be an unforgettable 2010 for you.

xx

All the best to you and your family! It has been a while since I have been on your blog and thought I would stop in and wow what a surprise. You just have a few more months to go now, maybe you will have your baby on my birthday, June 25th.

Hi Kitten
Congratulations!!! You're not the only one going to be a Mumma in June. I have completely neglected my blog for quite a few months now. This is my 3rd child so wedding organisation + 2 toddlers + early stages of pregnancy was enough for me to drop the blog for a while. I also lost my Dad in January which has been very sad.... Anyway, I've got 6wks until baby arrives and would love to post up my wedding photos on my blog just so that it can be complete. Hope you're feeling OK, I'm starting to get quite weary now.
